Dr. Mattord teaches both graduate and undergraduate cybersecurity courses and serves as Senior Editor of the Journal of
Cybersecurity Education, Research, and Practice. He has co-authored several widely used cybersecurity textbooks with Dr.
Michael Whitman, including Principles of Information Security, Principles of Incident Response and Disaster Recovery, and
Management of Cybersecurity, along with additional publications in the field.
An active researcher, author, and consultant, Dr. Mattords work focuses on cybersecurity management and related topics.
His research has appeared in the Information Resources Management Journal, Journal of Information Security Education,
Journal of Executive Education, and the International Journal of Interdisciplinary Telecommunications and Networking.
Dr. Mattord is a member of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), ISACA, and the Association for Information
Systems (AIS). Earlier in his career, he served as Manager of Corporate Information Technology Security at Georgia-Pacific
Corporation and held adjunct faculty appointments at Kennesaw State University, Southern Polytechnic State University,
Austin Community College, and Texas State UniversitySan Marcos.
in the Michael J. Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University (KSU). Under Dr. Whitmans leadership, the Center
successfully led KSUs designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence (CAE/IAE and CAE/CDE) in 2004, 2007,
2012, 2015, and 2022, awarded by the National Security Agency.
Dr. Whitman serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research, and Practice and is an active
researcher and author in cybersecurity risk management, policy, threats, curriculum development, and ethical computing.
He teaches both graduate and undergraduate cybersecurity courses. He is the author of several widely used cybersecurity
textbooks, including Principles of Information Security, Principles of Incident Response and Disaster Recovery, and
Management of Cybersecurity. His research has been published in leading journals such as Information Systems Research,
Communications of the ACM, Journal of International Business Studies, Information & Management, and the Journal of
Computer Information Systems.
Dr. Whitman is a member of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), ISACA, and the Association for Information
Systems (AIS). Prior to his academic career, he served as an armored cavalry officer in the U.S. Army, with additional
responsibilities as his units automated data processing systems security officer
