Don’t let them Burnout!
2020-09-01
Have you thought about the mental health of your employees? Don’t let them burnout! It’s a fact: most highly engaged employees are exhausted. If this has happened in a normal environment take a moment to think how much this has increased with COVID-19.
How to do it?
- Understand the workloads your employees have: what are they doing? Do they have support from their managers? Are the issues been properly prioritize and delegate? Start with a simple question: do they feel overwhelmed? And listen. In any company, there should be a spirit of cooperation.
- Offer flexible hours: do all employees have to be working from 8 am to 4 pm? In order to answer this, analyze the employee’s workloads and area objectives. Just by offering flexible hours to someone who is more productive in the morning you can help them reduce stress.
- Prioritize wellbeing: is not only that the company encourages employees to exercise….no. It includes a safe working environment. Do employees have all the equipment needed to do their job? Have the most important risks that could hinder their work been identified (safety, health, etc.)?
It’s also about respecting each other’s personal time. Balance work and life can be difficult if the boss is calling you during the weekends. And if there are regular deadlines, encourage employees to take time off after the task is done.
When the times are calmer, make employees come up with recommendations. What could be done more effectively? Take note: leadership is very important; they have to do what they say…commitment should be shown. In this way, employees are also empowered to make their own decisions, and boundaries are established.
