Dr Michael Freele y is an Associate Professor of Biotechnology at Dublin City University (DCU). Michael designed and developed the innovative and state-of-the-art MSc in Diagnostics and Precision Medicine at DCU. This was the one of the first programmes of its kind in the world, and the first in Ireland, to offer qualifications in precision medicine at postgraduate level. The programme was developed in order to keep abreast of the latest advances whereby science, technology and medicine are enabling diseases and conditions to be diagnosed more accurately (through molecular analysis) and treatments to be applied more individually (away from the traditional One Size-Fits-All approach). The programme is internationally recognised and has attracted students from across the globe, including the USA, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. Michael has served as Programme Chair of the course since its inception in 2018. Michael is also the group leader of the T cell signalling laboratory at DCU. His research group investigates the molecular mechanism of T cell activation and migration, and how knowledge of the signalling pathways regulating T cell function may be targeted for the treatment of cancer and inflammatory diseases.
